Hugh Jackman shares Ryan Reynolds’ animated reaction to Wrexham’s FA Cup win

Hugh Jackman shared a snap on Instagram showing Ryan Reynolds’ joyous reaction to Wrexham’s FA Cup victory.

Wrexham secured a 1-0 win over Shrewsbury Town in the third round of the competition on Sunday, thanks to Thomas O’Connor’s goal in the 72nd minute.

The fourth round of the FA Cup is set for later this month, with the draw happening on Monday night before the match between Wigan Athletic and Manchester United. Wrexham will be hoping to repeat last season’s success, which was featured in the ‘Welcome to Wrexham’ documentary.

After the match, Jackman posted a picture of Reynolds celebrating Wrexham’s win. The caption read: “HUGE!! ROUND 4,” and he tagged Reynolds, Blake Lively, and Wrexham co-owner Rob McElhenney.

Before the game started, Reynolds shared a photo on Twitter of him and Jackman ready to watch the match. Reynolds, who has been a co-owner of the Welsh club alongside McElhenney since February 2021, tweeted: “Watching @Wrexham_AFC in the @EmiratesFACup with Prisoner 24601.” The ‘Prisoner 24601’ comment refers to Jackman’s character Jean Valjean in the film Les Miserables.

McElhenney was also ecstatic about Wrexham’s win. The club shared a video on X, formerly known as Twitter, showing the overjoyed traveling Wrexham fans celebrating O’Connor’s goal.

“It’s fair to say @Wrexham_AFC fans enjoyed that goal,” noted Wrexham’s account. McElhenney responded by saying: “You should’ve seen my living room.”

The Red Dragons faced a memorable tie against Sheffield United last year in the fourth round of the FA Cup. They secured a replay at the Racecourse Ground but ended up losing at Bramall Lane.

Wrexham boss Phil Parkinson did not hide his happiness with his team’s performance. Shrewsbury are currently 15th in League One while Wrexham are 12 spots lower in the league ladder, sitting in third place in League Two.

“(It was) very pleasing,” Parkinson told Talksport. “They’re an established League One side, they’ve been there for eight years. First half, they pressed high and we put the ball at risk a couple of times and caused our own problems.

“But I thought we grew into the game and once their energy went out of their press, we got good control in the game, got the goal, searched for the second.

“It wasn’t until the last few minutes that they had a couple of half-chances, but we probably deserved that luck today with the manner of our performance.”
