SpeedKore presented its 1650 hp Dodge Charger Tantrum a few years ago at SEMA
Vin Diesel’s Fast and Furious character of Dominic Toretto has lots of love for classic Dodge muscle cars and as it turns out, the actor himself has the same passion. So, when it came to celebrating Diesel’s 52nd birthday during filming for Fast 9 last week, the crew decided to band together to get him an extra special gift.
A video posted on Diesel’s Instagram page shows the actor celebrating his birthday in front of the film crew and with director Justin Lin. Following a short speech from Lin, a muscle car can be heard starting up in the distance and a few seconds later, it is presented to Diesel. This is no ordinary muscle car.
What you’re looking at is the 1970 Dodge Charger ‘Tantrum’ which was built by SpeedKore Performance a couple of years ago. The car was listed for sale on Fusion Motors earlier this year but is no longer online, indicating that it has indeed been sold and wasn’t simply loaned to Diesel.
Powering the Tantrum is a Mercury Marine Racing 9.0-liter engine with two turbochargers that churns out an incredible 1650 hp. This engine is mated to a Tremec six-speed manual transmission and a Ford nine-inch rear end and is certainly one of the most insane Chargers we’ve ever come across.
What makes the vehicle all the more impressive is just how impeccably well-made it is. The exterior is clad in carbon fiber and the interior has also been transformed and fitted with new leather seats and numerous parts finished in Alcantara and carbon fiber.
