The transfer of midfielder Riyad Mahrez from Man City to Al-Ahli has officially been completed, when the Algerian star passed a medical examination to join the Saudi Arabia team.

Transfer expert Fabirizio Romano in the latest message on Twitter shared: “Riyad Mahrez has completed medical tests as new Al Ahli player.

“On his way to Saudi soon — he will play with Édou Mendy, Roberto Firmino and waiting for Allan Saint-Maximin”.

To get Mahrez’s signature, the Al-Ahli club had to raise the initial transfer fee of 18.5 million pounds to 27 million pounds before the two sides closed the final price of 30 million pounds. After Man City accepted the fee for Mahrez, the Algerian player was free to conduct a medical examination and was excluded from the tour in Japan.

British media reported that Mahrez left the Etihad with a heavy heart when he learned that his peak playing career in England was over. The 32-year-old, who has spent five years at City after arriving from Leicester, is expected to sign a three-year contract with the Saudi club and earn a salary of around £25 million a year.

Mahrez joined Man City from Leicester in 2018 for 67.8 million euros after helping the King Power Stadium team win the English Premier League. So far, the 32-year-old has made 236 appearances for the Blue Man, scoring 78 goals and providing 59 assists, with the team winning many trophies, including the great “treble” last season.

At Al-Hilal, Mahrez will become teammates with goalkeeper Edouard Mendy and striker Roberto Firmino.

The Spaniard decided to reside in Manchester’s city center rather than other football stars’ preferred suburbs with lots of villas.
