After spending a huge chunk of the year on a seemingly endless summer vacation, we’d have thought Dua Lipa would be sticking close to home for a bit. Instead, she’s done the opposite and headed on a trip to Tokyo. What else is a jet-setting pop star supposed to do?
But, rather than the tiny bikinis, backless co-ords, metallic mini dresses and Gucci bras she repped on her Meditteranean holiday a few months ago, Dua’s Tokyo vacay wardrobe is looking significantly different. Taking to Instagram, the artist shared a series of photos of herself embracing Japanese culture.
Captioning the post, “Kicked off my Tokyo trip with the sweetest invitation to a traditional tea ceremony 🍵🍥🌸🫘so happy to be hereeeeee!!!” Dua included videos of herself participating in the tea ceremony using a pestle and mortar, as well as photos of her and her friends getting dressed in traditional kimonos.
The national dress of Japan, Dua’s kimono was white and decorated with a red and yellow floral pattern. The traditional Japanese garment is usually worn with an obi, which Dua adhered to by adding a red and gold wide satin sash around her waist. She added a yellow flower and a red beaded tasselled flower clip to either side of her head, complementing the design of her kimono.
In the opening slide, Dua further accessorised with a Japanese parasol. Known as a Higasa and Maigasa (with the latter used specifically for dancing), they are made from washi paper and often feature stencil-dyed patterns. Dua held a red design with a white floral pattern etched on top.
Dua’s Japanese fans seemed very excited in the comments section that she was visiting their country and embracing their culture.
We can’t wait to see what Dua gets up to next on her trip.
