Dua Lipa’s latest look bears some similarities to the movie character that launched Tom Cruise’s career.
In a recent Instagram post, the “Dance the Night” singer shared snaps from her recent trip to Tokyo. In one photo, she wore a blue-and-white striped oversize button-up over white briefs and sheer black tights. The look could easily be a reference to an iconic scene from the 1983 film Risky Business, in which a teenaged Cruise dances in an empty house while wearing nothing but a dress shirt, underwear, and socks.
Lipa added her own flair to the ensemble, finishing off the look with a long gray coat, a maroon leather tie, a crimson leather purse, and textured gold hoop earrings.
The Grammy winner continued to show off her style in other pictures shared in the post. One snap captures Lipa smiling on the streets while wearing a black midi dress with an asymmetrical neckline and leg slit, as well as a long shaggy fur coat in a black-and-white zebra print. Another shows the singer wearing layers of molten gold necklaces with a plain white scoop neck tank top.
“How many highballs? 🥃,” she wrote in the caption.
In a 2017 interview with Harper’s Bazaar, Lipa explained her affinity for getting dressed. “I like having one piece that makes a whole outfit and then you can wear everything else that’s quite simple,” she said. “I’ve always loved dressing up. I like it when things look like you’ve just thrown them on and sometimes the things you really do just throw on look the best. I’ve always been inspired by the ’90s, and I like wearing baggy trousers, and blazers with slipdresses and thigh-high boots or leather jackets, and just a mixture of all those together.”
