When it comes to big-foliage houseplants, you can’t miss philodendrons. Some of the best types for this purpose are the split-leaf philodendron, the tree philodendron, the elephant ear philodendron, and the red-leaf philodendron. All of them can grow well in indirect light.

4. Elephant ear

If you’ve ever watched the famous sitcom “Two and a Half Man,” you must have noticed an elephant ear growing in the living room of Charlie Harper’s Malibu Beach House. How about having one like this in your house? Elephant ears are easy to grow and are available in many types.

Caladiums make attractive houseplants due to their large, variegated foliage with striking color combinations such as pink, red, white, and green. Since caladiums can easily tolerate full shade, keep them indoors that receives filtered or indirect sunlight.

A word of advice: caladiums are ideal for flower arrangements. Cut the caladium leaves and place them in a glass vase filled with water. They will not fade for a long time.

Dieffenbachia has broad, upright foliage with a mix of green, white, and yellow color. This beautiful, low-maintenance plant is ideal for bedrooms, hallways, and offices. It can be up to 5 feet tall in indirect light and needs water only when the topsoil is dry.

11. Calathea orbifolia

Calathea orbifolia is not as popular as the above houseplants, but it certainly deserves to be on this list of tall houseplants with large leaves. Its oval foliage is like a large fiddle fig leaf and has beautiful silver and green fringes. It thrives in full day indirect sunlight and warm temperatures.

Farfugium japonicum is prized for its thick, large shiny pelargonium-shaped leaves that can be 15 inches long and its yellow, daisy-like flowers that appear in fall and winter. This low-growing shade garden plant can also make an excellent houseplant if kept in a warm spot that gets 2-3 hours of morning sunlight.
