He recently celebrated his 50th birthday on Oct. 12 and shortly before he turned one year older, he spoke with the Gentleman’s Journal about how he’s not scared of aging. “Turning 50. I’m not afraid of that,” he revealed. “I’ve got no mid-life crisis planned. I certainly have worries and fears concerning my family, my children particularly. But there’s not a parent on the planet who doesn’t feel that.” Hugh and his wife, Deborra-Lee Furness, 62 have been hitched for more than two decades and are proud parents to two kids, son Oscar Jackman, 18, and daughter Ava Jackman, 13. During his sit-down with the Gentleman’s Journal, Hugh also confessed that fear for the future is something that he was able to overcome at a young age. “I used to jump off the diving board in my high school, over and over and over again, until I wasn’t scared anymore,” he shared. Hugh said that not thinking too much about his stardom helps keep him calm, too. “I very rarely feel the burden of my fame. Let’s put it this way, if I was to hand you the keys to a Ferrari, and tell you that there were going to be some traffic jams occasionally, you’d still take those keys — every day of the week! I’m doing what I love, so if there is the odd ‘traffic jam,’ I just try to put that into perspective,” he said. Now instead of constantly being afraid, Hugh just focuses on making incredible movies and being an amazing husband to his wife. During a previous Today show interview, he revealed that the secret to his long marriage with Deborra-Lee is to “find the right person.” He added, “It’s powerful but simple.”
