Pontiac GTO “Modern Man” Is Not Your Classic Muscle

While the classic muscle cars’ popularity seems to be higher than ever before, we can say the same about their new-age siblings. In fact, both types of machines have spread their reach so far that certain gearheads have decided to pursue a new avenue, one that mixes the two generations. For now, we’re looking at a rendering, one that sees an aging-like-fine-wine Pontiac GTO being fitted with the kind of aero treatment you’d find on a modern muscle machine.

We’re looking at a 1969 Pontiac GTO, whose covered headlights bring a strong retro aroma straight from the factory. Nevertheless, this slab of GM now packs a widebody kit and its fenders are among the most generous of the sort, going past the usual Coke bottle profile such aero work usually brings.

Up front, the lower front fascia has gained an extension that sits halfway between an air dam and the type of fascia packed by a contemporary muscle car.

We’ll quickly move past the side skirt extensions, which are all about the aero, jumping to the posterior of the Pontiac. While the factory spoiler is still present, the lower fascia now accommodates a diffuser-like element, with four generously-sized tailpipes allowing that V8 under the hood to express its aural feelings and emotions. Oh, and the rear window louvers come as a bonus.

It’s no secret that this GTO owes quite a lot of its appearance transformation to the eye-catching shade adorning most of the real estate. And we must also give credit to the road connection – while the microscopic ride height probably means we’re dealing with an air suspension on its lowest setup, the deep dish wheels feature a sleek, multi-spoke design.

Now, since we mentioned the hybrid muscle breed in the intro, here’s a real-world build that makes for a brilliant example. This is a 2010 Dodge Challenger R/T impersonating a third-generation Plymouth GTX, with the project still under development.
