From the comics, to the cartoons, and yes, even the movies, the Black Widow made her mark as a worthy fighter, ally, and member of the Avengers. From the creative mind of Stan Lee to the amazing portrayal of Scarlett Johansson, it is indeed sad that we may no longer see the original Black Widow, that is, Natasha Romanov.
With the last Avengers saga ending on a universe-level threat, we all saw how Natasha Romanov selflessly sacrificed herself, laying down her own life to first save her best friend Hawkeye and then the rest of the universeby obtaining the Soul Stone, and the price? Her own life.
But despite the honorable end her beloved character had, many fans are still hopeful to see her once again, fighting off evil while working with the rest of the Avengers. But unfortunately, Scarlett Johansson herself had stated multiple times, Natasha Romanov as Black Widow will not return to Avengers: Doomsday or Avengers: Secret Wars.

“She is dead. She’s dead. Okay? They just don’t want to believe it. They’re like, ‘But she could come back!’ Look, I think the balance of the entire universe is held in her hand. We’re going to have to let it go.” – Scarlett Johansson
In an interview with Vanity Fair back in May 2025 she even expressed the importance of her being gone.
“It would be very hard for me to understand in what capacity [returning] would make sense for me, for the character that I play. I miss my buddies and really would love to be with them forever, but what works about the character is that her story is complete. I don’t want to mess with that. For fans, too – it’s important for them” – Scarlett Johansson

And even on an interview with Interview Magazine back in June 2025, she reminded us of how high the stakes are with we bring her back to life.
“If I come back from the dead, then half the world’s population dies. Didn’t you see Endgame for Christ’s sake?” – Scarlett Johansson
It really seemed to be a clear-cut case that we are no longer going to see our favorite assassin fight off a horde of aliens and robots to save the world. But let’s not be sad that it ended; let’s celebrate that it happened, because if it weren’t for the Black Widow’s sacrifice, half the universe wouldn’t be here to remember her as a true hero.
